Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father's departure the family, it was managed by her grandmother, mom as well as godparents. As a young girl, Ford was battling anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused by the word association. Ford's interest in acting began as a child. She was a part of at the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a few weeks, she realized it was not for her. Ford applied instead at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered an interview on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. He was later to play recurring roles as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford's television debut was in a 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate was seen in television shows such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London's Burning in the Nineties. She worked on stage regularly and was a member of the company's season 2000-2001. Tate was recognized for her comedy stand-up and was added to her resume in the year 1996.
